After writing a plea for independent thought aimed at my colleagues on the left, here, I thought in the interest of balance I would revisit a couple of the conservative sites I had excerpted yesterday during the London bombing aftermath, to see how they were getting along. This is what I found at Little Green Footballs, among the (currently) 1064 comments:

I'm sure that there were "nice" NAZIS, KLANSMEN and KHMER ROUGE as well you f-ing BOZO. Being "nice" and innocuous is not enough to get you off the hook. If you support "ISLAM" then you support this kind of shit, ergo you don't deserve the protections of Western Society in order to spread your sickness.
If these were "spreaders of virulent tuberculosis" instead of "Muslims" they would be hunted down mercilessly until every last one was quarantined or eliminated. I had to stop reading before the fumes knocked me out. If there's anything to take away from this, it's that nothing encourages hate and extremism like the hothouse immediacy of political communication enabled by internet chatrooms and weblogs. Even allowing for the usual gas these characters are blowing off, the odds are that a few among those 1000+ commenters are dead serious and capable of acting on their violent predilictions. Aldous Huxley called it herd-intoxication.

Ward Churchill may hate those he regards as culpable in oppressing the weak, but he hasn't, to my knowledge, ever suggested putting them in camps and shooting up their churches, let alone mowing them down and dumping their bodies into open graves. God help us if he does, we'll have truly come full circle then.
